From $1,000 offer to a $28,000 sale

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

It’s been a while since I discussed my last domain sale. As everyone knows we are in the middle of this year and my target to make 20-24 sales per year is quite far away right now. This is my 6th sale of this year and I am not happy with the number of sales but what I can say is the total revenue generated is great so far but numbers of sales are not up to the mark.

What I have also noticed is the number of inquiries since the beginning of 2016, which has been on the low side. I have discussed this with fellow domainers and most of them were in the same boat.

From-$1,000-offer-to-a-$28,000-sale

Coming to the sale which I just completed through Sedo was for the domain BrightEnergy.com which eventually sold for $28,000. Buyer contacted through Sedo with initial offer of $1,000. I countered with $38,888. As the negotiation history cannot be seen right now because the sale is completed, I cannot share exactly how we negotiated further but it was something like buyer gave 5K, 10K, 12K, 15K, 17.5K, 18,300, 27,500. I wanted to tell that buyer also came through Afternic broker and those mentioned counter offers were included from both platforms. I knew the buyer is same and using Sedo and Afternic simultaneously. The entire deal took almost a month to get completed from the initial offer to completing the transaction.

I wanted to thank Brian Michitti (Sedo broker) who was very good in handling this entire transaction on my behalf and very quick in taking necessary actions on time.

Feel free to give your feedback and share your recent sales.

Congrats Abdul.. Another great sale from you.

If possible can you tell whether 28k price was from buyer or you lowered the price from initial asking to complete the deal.

    • Thanks yeah.
As the initial offer was 1K and I quoted $38,888. When the buyer was stuck at 27.5K, I stood at 28K and that took more than a week for buyer to agree upon 😀

Congrats!!! Good keyword COM is still the correct answer.Thanks.

    AbdulBasit,
It looks that someone purchased also the .Net for 3,500 USD at the end of May, through Sedo.
Great sale for 28,000 USD! really a BRIGHT investment! 😀
    Enjoy the ride! Congrats! 🙂

    • Many thanks Andrea. Always appreciate your comments.

Yeah, I was aware of that and buyer informed me through Sedo comment in the middle of negotiation process. As the buyer wanted me to lower the price so informed me about the recent purchase of .net but that never bothers me to lower the price. Instead that makes me to think the buyer is serious enough and will pay what I want 😀

Absolutely that was bright investment and a bright return 😀

        AbdulBasit,
If the buyer of your domain is the same of the .Net, then buyer it’s the “infamous” Diversity Network, from Cardiff, UK, Shelley Roberts and the other guys involved in the “crazy” UDRP case of Halifax.com … where they “bombarded” Bank of Scotland, which owns many TMs for “Halifax”, until they got the UDRP, and rightfully lost it.
I’m sure you remember it: http://domainnamewire.com/2016/03/01/halifax-udrp/
Hope they are not planning the same strategy for your name … lol 😀

        • Sorry Andrea for missing your comment as I always try my best to respond each and every comment.

Thanks for sharing that info and it’s really surprising to see they were the buyer and it would be more surprising if they starts bombarding someone else in order to sell this domain which won’t be as fruitful for them as it was for me 😀

Salaam and Ramadan Mubarak and also congrats on the good sale. No matter how many domains are sold each year but only the price at which they are sold certainly matters the most. So in this case you are a winner. How many years did you hold this domain? and any previous offers? and how did you decide the price? is it your feeling or something like previous similar sales record like the .Net one.

    • Thanks Sameeruddin and Ramadan Mubarak to you as well 🙂
      Yeah, absolutely right.

I think of holding this name for above or around 2 years. After checking my account, previously I received the lowest offer of $35 and highest €100 excluding the one who bought it 😀

As mentioned earlier in other comment, energy sector is huge and this is really peanuts for someone who understands the value of this domain.

I came to knew about the .net sale by the buyer itself while we were in the middle of negotiation.

Abdul congrats. You are a pro ! Thanks for sharing.

  16. Sumit says:

    Really a great sale!

This again proves that if the seller is convinced of the true value of the domain, it can be sold for that figure, irrespective of what all automated appraisal tools suggest.

    • Sumit says:

Also, was there any outbound sales effort from your side or was it just the listing of domain and then waiting for offer?

    • Thanks Sumit!
      Very well said 🙂

Not done any outbound marketing for this domain ever but previously the lowest offer was $35 and highest was €100 excluding this sale. Funny yeah 😀

  17. Niz says:

    Congrats bro…

    That was a fantastic sale..

    Happy for you

  20. You are definitely an inspiration my friend. Lovely hearing great sales figures from you about those domain names.

  21. Tony says:

Great sale. Great negotiations. Very inspirational.

Why does namebio list the sale price as $24,350?

    • Thanks Tony! Glad you like it 🙂
Sedo would be better to answer this. I was confused too but after clearing up with broker and transfer agent, they said buyer has accepted 28K and I will be paid $24,350 😀

  22. Fahim Hassan says:
