Domain acquisitions and sales of January/February 2016

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

Today I wanted to share what domain acquisitions and sales I made so far this year and will share some of the purchases I did in the last couple of months:

288626.com, 982228.com, 668155.com – Bought several 6Ns last year and very few this year including these two of them. I buy all domains thinking of long term investment but if there is a decent offer, I do accept it.

AEHM.com, MBNI.com, SIBN.com, RIAM.com, ABWM.com, SGMI.com, AGAD.com, JMCL.com, CISG.com – I have been buying LLLL.com rather quickly than I did in past. I still see non CHIPS are undervalued and has plenty of room to improve in pricing so if your pocket allows you spend, buy some LLLL.com which you can get at bargain. Although I paid decent prices for each of them as I go after combination of letters in which I see lot of potential.

JamieLee.com – Is there any post of my acquisitions in which I didn’t mention a person name. I just love buying such type of names. Although very few sold to date.

BEB.org, CGL.org, PDR.org, TPA.org – I think they are undervalued right now like 4L .com non CHIPS. Although Chinese are not much into .org but there are plenty of non Chinese buyers (enduser) out there for buying a quality LLL.org

SpeedHero.com – My first domain with the word “hero” and reading the posts from Doron inspired me to buy this one 😉

Liget.com – Every CVCVC.com has some value and I like this one although it doesn’t have any significant meaning other than “park” in Hungarian language.

MorningDew.com – I love these type of domains which can be used as brand for many different type of businesses.

KitchenAndBathroom.com – A three word .com with “and” in it but is a perfect domain for any kitchen and bathroom related company. Explains everything.

LymeLight.com – May be a type of sale what Mike Berken’s does it on regular basis. But nothing to worry when buying this as I won’t seek for that high sale price 😉

ExpressPizza.com – Any startup or existing pizza company with this name?

ShopGreen.com – I would prefer to have GreenShop.com but that’s what I was able to get it. Still I like this name.

Let’s get into the sales part which I think will keep it short. I actually had so far 3 domain sales in the past couple of months

First two sales I cannot disclose the name due to buyer’s request. But the sale price was around mid 4 figs each.

The last domain sale which I made in February was of ThePropertyClub.com. There were a couple of interesting things in this particular sale which I wanted to share. First, the buyer approached me calling from UK and offered me £200. I politely rejected and told him I will sell for around 4-5K.

Next day, he called me again by offering this time 1K which was again rejected. At the same time he increased the offer to 1.5K. Again, my answer was the same.

May be the next day or a gap of one day, he called again and asked what will be the minimum I would accept. It was $4,000 and he accepted. Payment was made swiftly and deal done! Interesting part was that I made my first domain sale through a phone call when the buyer called at first. Although I have made very few sales in the past when I initially approached the endusers.

Last interesting thing, it was my first sale starting with word “The”. Took too long to make it first as I like domains with starting word “the”. I think of having around 20 domains starting with “the” and glad it started paying off from last month.

This year I have started buying LLLL.com domains more aggressively as long term investment and surely they are going to pay off well. I still see these LLLL are undervalued especially Western letters and I am going more after them.

Updates on Pheenix domain backordering service

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

I have some updates to share about Pheenix – domain backordering company and I fear there will be some people who will stop using their service because starting 19th September 2015, they are going to make public auctions similar to DropCatch which in my opinion isn’t good idea because why one should waste time in finding and placing backorder when others are doing the job. You can simply jump into the auction at the last minute and take over if the domain is coming under your budget. Anyhow, below is the entire email I received from the CEO of Pheenix:

“We’ve been hard at work and have made further updates to our system.

  1. We now support Alipay deposits!

This has been in the works for a while and we are glad that we can offer this great feature now for our customers.

  1. We’ve made our auctions easier and simpler. 

Effective Today Sep 7, auctions now start at the backorder price.  When the auction is over, you only pay the auction ‘high bid’ amount.

Before auctions started at 0  and then people would bid.  If the ‘high bid’ ended at $5 then the total price would be $5 + $18.95 = $23.95.

Moving forward, the auctions will start at $18.95.  Once the auction ends, you only pay for the ‘high bid’ from the auction.

We are in a transition period so some auctions which started prior to Sep 7 still have the old architecture, however, after Sep 10 all auctions should follow this guideline.

  1. Public Auctions coming September 19th. 

All domains that have multiple backorders on it will now be available for Public Bidding for any backorders being released on or after 2015-09-19.

As a precondition, if someone did not have a backorder on the domain name prior to it going to auction, their minimum bid is at least $59 in order to participate in the auction.

New domain backordering service – KQW.com

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

Recently I came to know about new domain backordering service KQW.com. Looking at the domain, I thought the service will be from Chinese company and I wasn’t disappointed 😉

One of their representatives contacted me and asked me to try their service just few days back and since that time I have placed several backorders with them. So far no success but I have seen them catching few domains.

What I have learned so far is you may place backorder but will need to pay upfront which isn’t what I really like. One good thing is they offer private auctions and don’t let others to jump in at the very last minute. They need to improve their language interface because when I see the English version of their site, I still find Chinese language written all over. For example visiting the auction rules and FAQs page.

If you surf their site, you will find many .cc domains running in auction and it shows they are good at catching .cc domains than .com one’s. So far they are offering backordering service for .com, .net, .org, .cc, .tv, .biz, .me domains.

As they seems to be new in domain backordering, still they have more than 20 registrars offering a backorder service for expired domains.

KQW.com are quite affordable as they only charge as low as $20 per domain name. Their interface is simple and user-friendly.

You may also check the other domain backordering companies I have used so far.

How can you judge this craziness?

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

Before I write anything I just wanted to make things clear that I have no hard feelings for the winning bidder (mkrules) of the domain name hobb.com which was recently concluded at NameJet.

It was no reserve auction and the minimum bid to participate in that auction was at regular price $69. If someone mistypes the minimum bid before the auction gets start, you are free to withdraw and delete from your account. In this case, the bidder placed $7,777 as his starting/minimum bid even before the auction gets underway. I thought he will change the price because as far as I have tracked this guy is purely domainer and not a newbie or enduser.

As the auction got started, no one had the courage to bid higher than that and eventually mkrules was declared as winner. I think he is going to pay for that as he owns several thousand of domain names.

Now the interesting question is what was the need of placing such high bid even though it was no reserve auction and he could have got for a lot lesser.

The only reason I can think off could be he mistakenly typed that bid but that doesn’t seems to be the reason because there is another auction going on for ankles.com for which the same bidder has given initial bid of $5,555 whereas he could have given $239 to get into auction.

Once again I wanted to clear that I have nothing against that bidder but if he really needed that domain than at least he should have placed initial bid with $69 and $239 respectively in both auctions and later he may have placed proxy bid of $7,777 or whatever he is comfortable at. In my opinion, he would have still got for a lower price because the next highest bidder was at $1,000.

Can any one explain this madness as to why someone is throwing away his money for no good reason. At least I can’t see or think of any 😉
