Hello everyone,
Since everyone now is aware that how the last year ended for my portfolio and I was very much impressed with Afternic who made plenty of sales without even using their Fast Transfers as well as not pointing the domains to their nameservers.
I was suggested by Afternic to try their brokerage service by pointing domains to their nameservers but I wasn’t that much impressed and inclined towards giving it a try until the end of last month which made me think to give them a try at least for few months and see the results.
Today I’ve made the changes and all my domains are pointing towards Afternic nameservers except very few. No doubt that the domain sales will automatically increase due to the brand recognition factor every domain sales lander is having it now.
Another positive side is that I used to receive around 500 inquiries every month with the domain portfolio of little over 3,400 and of course most of those inquiries never convert. And from that too, many of them are not genuine domain inquiries. This way I’ll save enough time to spend other place which is more productive.
The downside is I’ll end up paying commission for every sale, some of which I could’ve converted myself when the leads were coming in directly via Uniregistry sales lander.
The only way I could receive direct inquiry now is via WHOIS which was already coming in rare circumstances so I don’t expect to convert much via this channel.
I’m very much positive and excited with this change and decided after taking considerable time. Will keep you guys posted with the results.
Feel free to give your feedback on this change and/or if any one of you already using this method, kindly share the results with us to understand more clearly.
Thank you!
Aslam Abdul bhai,
Well seems you have great plans for this year… Great… Enjoy domaining.. And keep us informed… You are a great domainer…
Thank you
WaAlaikum Salaam,
Thanks for your kind words. I’ll surely be sharing the results in some time for you and others to understand if this idea was better or not. I’m excited and very much confident of things working out well with this change.
Actually thought of doing the same with a few of my domains. Afternic’s landing page has Godaddy’s logo on it and that should give end users confidence to transact. You may increase your price by 20%, to cover the commission fees if you want to.
Wishing you more sales.
May I know what stopped you in giving it a try?
Already I’ve done pricing at Afternic with BIN so increasing now won’t make much sense because even last year whatever sales happened directly or via Afternic, my price quote was same at all venues. I’ve no problem in paying 20% to Afternic but the few things I’ll miss like making some deals directly and saving 20% as well as to learn more and polish myself in negotiation.
Nothing really, it was just a thought I was considering but yet to execute. Having read your post, I decided to point some of my domains now to Afternic’s nameservers in order to give it a try for the first quarter or half of the year.
I do agree with the you in missing making some deals directly and improving the art of negotiation, but there are also times one may need to experiment on a different approach and see how things turns out.
Thanks for sharing.
I think if you point some portion of your domains, that wouldn’t show a clear picture of how things really worked out. Not sure how many domains you’ve in total but I think few hundreds of domain test at minimum is required to see the desired results.
Wish you all the best Kay and feel free to share how it works out for you in a quarter or half year time. I’ll be sharing it as well.
Hmmm…Thanks for the tip, I will try it out. I have a small portfolio of almost 200 domains.
How do you list names without pointing the domains to their nameservers in Afternic?
Before this change, I used to point all domains at Uniregistry sales lander and was simply adding domains to my Afternic account along with BIN, Reserve, Floor and Minimum prices. That way I was getting direct inquiries via Uniregistry sales lander and BIN sales via Afternic which gave additional exposure as well as saved 20% commission when I was completing sales directly without Afternic.
Do you have any names that I can see with uniregistry lander and Afternic bin prices?
You may check GRO.com but the only difference between this lander and others was the minimum offer column. As none others had this. I’d to keep for this domain because too much emails come in from which 99% are not qualified leads.
For Afternic, as far as I know there is no BIN lander but only this one which I’m using PrintFactory.com
All my lander were different from
Question…..did you BIN/price out the names? Good luck in 2020 and thanks for sharing!
Hi Paul!
Thanks for commenting.
Yes, I’ve added BIN to almost all of my domains as that really increases the sales volume so I strongly suggest everyone to add BIN. Having Make Offer doesn’t bring you enough sales compare with adding BIN.
Thanks for the info AbdulBasit. That is always my holdup…adding BIN pricing. It is large undertaking.
Thanks again.
Good luck Paul!
Keep us posted about your results in near future as that would help others to understand.
Hey Abdul, how are you doing? A Great way for you to start a new experiment at the start of the year. Here is some of my Feedback for your experiment: 1) Sometimes people are fearful of change, but you wont know until you try this, so do try this. 2)Try this experiment for 3-6 months, to get an overall spread of the experiment and results, rather than just trying for 3 weeks. 3) As Afternic have fees of 20% you can increase your offer prices by 20% to make up for the commissions. Even if you increase your offer… Read more »
Thank you Matt for taking your quality time and giving your valuable feedback which I appreciate it 🙂 I totally agree with your point 1. I’ve planned to try for 6 months like you said too straight on which will give better and clear results to decide the future Already I’ve done pricing at Afternic with BIN so increasing now won’t make much sense because even last year whatever sales happened directly or via Afternic, my price quote was same at all venues. I’ve no problem in paying 20% to Afternic but the few things I’ll miss like making some… Read more »
Hi Abdul, just curious to know – have you set any reserve price for your domains in Afternic along with BIN price? If not then how a lead will work out if one interested person inquires for a domain you set say $20K BIN. Will afternic broker contacts with potential buyer with firm $20K price?
Also as far as I know most of your domain names are at Uniregistry who is not Afternic Fast transfer partner. Will you be transferring out your names to a Afternic fast transfer supported registry to get maximum exposure?
Wish you all the best.
Hi Ariful,
Thanks for your comment.
As far as I remember recalling all my domains are having the same reserve price as the BIN price. But the Afternic broker still contacts me if the offer is closer to BIN/reserve price.
I would be okay to move out of Uniregistry because I don’t see any implementing Afternic Fast Transfers but the problem is I don’t see any control panel and friendly interface at any other regsitrars. Would you like to suggest any better one which offers better control panel along with pricing?
I have almost 800+ domains at Epik and Dynadot. You can also try them. They both are AfternicDLS and SedoMLS partner. I find their control panel pretty user friendly. Epik charges $8.75 for .com renewal and at Dynadot you can get $8.50 super bulk pricing for .com renewal by spending $5k/ year. If you spend $500 /year you will get bulk pricing where .com renewal price is $8.75. Best Wishes.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ll contact Dynadot and see what they can offer for my portfolio. Will share on blog if I make this change as well any time.
Thank you once again 🙂
Hello and Assalam O Alikum, I switched my names (approx 1800) to Afternic using their sales page (nameservers: ns3.afternic.com & ns4.afternic.com) back in June 2019 in order to focus on some other projects and let afternic/godaddy do all the negotiations. I could have kept all at UniRegistry and just turn on the brokerage switch but like to test the afternic/godaddy market reach. Here I would like to clarify that most of my names, around 90% were hand-reg or caught in drops ($8 each) from 2000-2005 and I am also not an active seller/buyer of the domain names these days. So… Read more »
WaAlaikum Salaam Aamir bhai,
Thank you for your detailed feedback which is very much appreciated and helpful.
Feedback from you and some other investors have given me more confidence in giving them a try and stick to this new change.
Once again thank you! 🙂
I have been getting lots of price request from afternic every week as i listed with a default 20 make offer but now listing with some with BIN.I am moving my names to dynadot as they can be on MLs and afternic network so more exposure. With Godaddy not participating with sedo its not my choice to leave my names there bur rather with where i get more exposure on both sides. Sold a name on sedo mls but buyer prefers to transfer away from Godaddy so i have to wait till 1st week of next month to finalize with… Read more »
Thank you Alech for sharing your experience as that definitely helps.
I think your new move from price requests to BIN will bring better results. It’s better to keep BIN rather than updating prices when there is some price request.
Would you like to share how’s the control panel of Dynadot and overall your experience with them in handling/managing domains there?
Control Panel is easy and i have never had any problem them.I am comfortable with dynadot and like the advantage of both mls in sedo and afternic network as well.I pay 8.50 to renew .com and its cheaper to have my .org there as well as they have a better rate compared to Godaddy. I have also used their landing page to get leads as well but no ssl.My experience with them in terms of managing my domains is great with pricing, chatting with them to resolve any issues whatsoever.Since you have lots of domains,It would be cheaper with them and… Read more »
Hi Abdul!
I was wondering for the new experiment in Afternic you are using ns1-ns2 (parking) or ns3-ns4 (sales page). Which is better? I’d appreciate if you could share your thoughts on this.
Thanks
Hey Ajay,
I’m using ns3-ns4 and I’m sure this will bring in better results as ns1-ns2 is mainly for parking. I’ve confirmed with Afternic as well that ns3-ns4 works well in terms of making more sales.
Thanks!
Thanks Abdul!
Have you considered auctioning domains on NameJet?
No, never. Also won’t try in future as well because the prices domain investors will get will be mostly reseller prices whereas I target endusers only.
I know its early, but is the test providing any sales thus far?
Thanks for commenting and asking. I’ll be sharing the results early next month with detail.
