Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,
I received an email from GoDaddy which is important for you to read if you are dealing through GoDaddy Auctions. Below is the entire message:
Weโre making a few changes to our commission structures, which will make them some of the most competitive in the market. First of all, we’re adding Premium Domains to Buy-It-Now Auction searches to broaden your audience. Simply list your domain as you normally would for a Premium Domain and it will show up in both auction listings and domain searches. If you set it up as a Buy-It-Now Auction, you’ll be prompted to upgrade it to a Premium listing as well. We’ve been hard at work making sure the fees make sense and provide discounts for higher-valued sales. Now they’ll be based on the domain sale price. Take a look at these three tiers: |
|
Please note we’re setting a minimum of $50 for Buy-It-Now Auctions and $100 for Premium listings.ย We’re also setting a $20 minimum listing price for 7-Day Auctions and Offer/Counter-Offer domain listings.Along with the changes to new listings moving forward, we’ll be converting existing listings over to the new system over the next 3 to 4 weeks for an early April launch.
If you don’t want us to change your listing prices automatically, simply update your domain pricing manually before March 31st, and it will default to the new listing rules when we roll out the new structure. Please give us a call if you have any questions about the process at 480-505-8877. Sincerely, |
What do you think on these changes made by GoDaddy?
Those new fees are a joke … crazy increases … for a poor service.
No, thanks …
We’ve never sold our domains through GoDaddy and we’ll continue to do so … ๐
Thanks for your feedback Andrea ๐
I think I am in your boat as well. Although I sold one domain through Domain Buy service but I promised myself not to sell another one with them ๐
I got the same email and I have to read it twice …crazy fees …GD now really Greedy daddy
Yeah, that’s really not good. That will definitely have negative effects. LOL@ greedy daddy.
Read it too. Not a good idea to dismiss them altogether but comparisons should be made with other DN Brokers.
I had a bad experience with them in past so that’s another factor for not choosing them in future – https://www.abdulbasit.com/personal/domain-sold-through-godaddy-buy-service
Those are high commissions but I don’t care because I don’t sell with them.
What I really dislike is the process that occurs there when someone searches for an already registered domain… I don’t think they explain clearly the backorder process… The person may buy a backorder (for a domain that isn’t expiring) instead of contacting you! GoDaddy gets a sale even if the domain never drops and the person doesn’t want to reuse such credit in another domain.
Thanks for your feedback and I completely agree on that point. I think GoDaddy doesn’t even refund for the backorder placed and we are required to used that. Correct me if I am wrong…
Hi Abdul, I enjoy reading your blog so thank you very much for covering this. I am really sorry to hear about your negative experience with Domain Buy Service. I am happy to help in any way that I can if you ever have any concerns in the future. I appreciate that the commission fees are a bit confusing, but we created them in an effort to charge less for higher value sales vs. a flat commission structure. We are planning on releasing an inline commission calculator shortly after we release the new changes. In many cases you will see… Read more »
I hate it when a salespeople try to twist prices around to pretend prices are better. Come on Godaddy you are talking to other salespeople here, don’t attempt to spin things. Nobody cares about your old Afternic fees. The only thing that matters is you changed a 10% fee to a 20% fee and claim it’s cheaper

Thanks Joe for your detailed feedback and I appreciate that. About Domain Buy Service, I will never try again because I am from Pakistan and there was no option to enter wire detail in order to receive payment. There was routing number to be entered and in Pakistan there is no such requirement. I even called your support and asked them to have my bank detail manually but none of the staff was cooperative enough to give me exact answer and undesirably I received the payment at my PayPal. Commission fees are actually not confusing but went clearly higher than… Read more »
I appreciate that. Paying out people in other countries was an issue for us for a while which we have finally corrected last year. We now use a payment company that will pay you in local currency and have had a much better experience with paying people.
I can only apologize for people giving you bad information and causing you to have been paid via paypal when you asked not to be. Please reach out to me directly if you ever have an issue again.
Good to know issue has been resolved for paying in all other countries. If there is any lead I wanted to proceed with Domain Buy Service, I will get in touch with you first to make things clear before proceeding further.
Many thanks Joe ๐
