Our Domain Portfolio – DomainsWeb.com

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

For years I have been looking to showcase all my domains at one place but I never found a good place until recently when I tried Efty.com which is founded by Doron Vermaat and Michael Cyger who recently joined their leadership team. A big thanks to Doron for creating such a wonderful platform for domainers who can not only showcase their domains but sell through that as well.

Many people have asked me in past where they can see my entire list of domains and today I’m happy to announce that it’s completed and I would like everyone to check DomainsWeb.com and give your feedback and suggestions.

First bad experience with Escrow.com!

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

As mentioned in my last post about having bad experience with Escrow.com for which I promised to share how it actually was a sour experience for me.

So far I have initiated transactions in U.S Dollars and no buyer had any objection to date. For the recent sale of Enkla.com, I did the same way but for the first time the buyer made the payment in Euros. As buyer made the payment and both of us (buyer and seller) were in regular touch with Escrow team to find out when the payment will reach to them and it took 20 (correction – 15 days) for them to inform us that we have received the payment but since it’s in Euros, the funds will be sent back.

Both buyer and seller requested them to convert the funds or at least mention somewhere clearly while during the transaction but they didn’t do this favor for us even though they took too long just to share this update and gave me the link to one of their FAQ –

https://www.escrow.com/support/payment-options

https://www.escrow.com/support/supported-currencies

Where they have stated “Escrow.com regrets that we are unable to modify the currency type once it is selected.” and “Escrow.com is unable to offer currency conversion”. If they will keep such attitude towards their clients, get ready to lose business.

Since Brandon Abbey sold and left the company, after that I have read many people complaining about their service.

Rather than creating confusion for both parties and losing time and money in such cases, better they keep it simple by having just one currency for transactions in USD. If not, they should either clearly mention during the transaction or have some flexibility by providing currency conversion service.

There will be some who will say that buyer should have read the FAQ before sending the funds but that doesn’t happen in every case and anyone while facing any difficult situation goes to read FAQ and not simply to learn A-Z of that particular website.

My regular readers must have seen that I had kept Escrow.com logo for around 3 years and I was listed as one of their partners but since the management changed, they removed my website logo from their partner’s list without any prior notification which shows how good and efficient people are working at Escrow.com. I asked and no concrete reason was provided and informed me that we shall put up your website logo again once we launch our new design. I’m sure that’s not going to happen early but I still kept their banner for some more months but couple of weeks back removed it. They have took off the logos of many other companies and surely won’t have informed them like to me.

Doesn’t mean I will stop using their service completely right now but I shall start looking out for alternatives and one of that I see is Payoneer Escrow.

Care to share your thoughts? Anyone had such incident in past or would like to share some other bad experiences with Escrow.com?

My domain KITCHN.com saved in UDRP

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

First, I would like to thank Mr. Howard Neu for accepting this case and later defending it successfully the domain KITCHN.com which is one of our prime properties.

Let me tell you some background before I shall tell you about the case in detail.

In October 2015, the law firm representing Kitchn.no contacted me for the purchase of my domain and started offer from $100 up to $7,000 to which no interest was shown.

Next in June 2016, the complainant filed UDRP on our domain Kitchn.com and Mr. Howard respresented me to defend and save the valuable domain.

Today, we got the news of winning the case.

Below is the detail:

“In a 3 person panel decision, the UDRP Claim for Kitchn.com was denied at WIPO. In the case of Kitchn Norge AS v. Abdulbasit Makrani, Case No. D2016-1189, a Norwegian company that held the Norwegian trademark for KITCH’N was too limited to a specific area (Norway and Sweden) as to apply to Bad Faith on the part of the Respondent Abdulbasit Makrani.  Here are some of the relevant excerpts of the decision:

The Panel notes that, at the time the disputed domain name was acquired by the Respondent, the Complainant had been trading in Norway and Sweden for some 18 years, had been the proprietor of the Norwegian trademark No. 221252 for KITCH’N for some 11 years and also appears to have been selling through the Internet for almost 2 years.

There is no evidence that the Complainant’s trademark might have been used outside Norway and Sweden and the Complainant’s website clearly targets consumers located in Norway since it is entirely in Norwegian.  Moreover, a Google search for “kitchn” shows several results unrelated to the Complainant and its mark.

The records indicate that the Respondent is a professional domain name registrant and acquired the disputed domain name through an automated process immediately after the original registration lapsed.  As highlighted in previous cases, the automated nature of the acquisition cannot be an excuse for turning a blind eye to trademark rights, since otherwise it would be the “perfect shield for abusive registrations”.  SeeResearch In Motion Limited v. Privacy Locked LLC/Nat Collicot, WIPO Case No. D2009-0320.

However, particularly given the nature of the disputed domain name as a contraction of the dictionary term “kitchen”, the Panel finds that nothing in the case file indicates that the Respondent had ever known of the Complainant’s rights or that the Respondent registered the disputed domain name to capitalize on the Complainant’s mark.

This finding is supported by the fact that the use of the disputed domain name does not show an intention to target the Complainant or its competitors, as the links displayed on the website published at the disputed domain name are mainly related to cooking recipes and not to the Complainant’s trademark and products.

Instead, in the case at hand, there is no evidence that the Respondent might have registered the disputed domain name with the intention to sell it to the Complainant or to trade off the Complainant’s mark.  Therefore, the Panel also finds that the Respondent’s refusal of the Complainant’s offer for the disputed domain name and his request of a higher sum do not amount to bad faith.

In view of the above, the Panel finds that the Complainant has failed to demonstrate that the Respondent registered and used the disputed domain name in bad faith.”

The Respondent AbdulBasit Makrani was represented in this case by the Law Office of Howard Neu, P.A.

I wanted to convey a message to all people around the world, I will try my best to defend my properties and won’t let them go easily.

Any feedback is welcome.

Some recent acquisitions until June 2016

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

As I previously shared my January and February 2016 acquisitions together, today I wanted to show some more domains which I acquired in recent time. Just wanted to add that I hit the 1300 mark of domains under my belt.

RIMG.com, JAYN.com, TIRC.com, ZSLI.com, ZRSI.com, ZAIC.com, JISB.com, GITZ.com, ACAW.com – Some of the 4L .com I bought recently. I am always looking for similar combinations.

GutCheck.com – This domain was previously owned by Mike Berkens and sold to GoDaddy when he sold his big chunk of portfolio to them. I bought from GoDaddy with the help of Jamie Zoch. Thanks to him for finding the gem at reasonable price.

Komex.com, Vican.com, Primarius.com, CityFirst.com – I love such brandable domains which can be developed into anything. The more possibilities, the more bigger reward.

Klinkenberg.com, TomWhite.com, Ayushi.com – Difficult not to list person names when sharing recent acquisitions 😀

TheCow.com – Very aged domain (1996). Although age doesn’t matter when I buy domain but I am always fond of “the” domains.

BioHair.com – Sensible health related domains always pay off well and it’s one of them.

FairDeal.com – Deal domains always do well and this domain can turn out to be one of the biggest shopping/deals portal.

POM.org, WIL.org – Since I last mentioned of buying LLL.org domains, the prices have gone a bit high. I am creating competition but that’s okay as far as I am bringing awareness and sharing what I think is right to buy in current market.

LaCity.com – The City or Los Angeles City or anything else city as well.

SignatureRealty.com – Authorititive name for any real estate agency/firm.

To summarize things in short, I look for domains where I can see lot of potential and possibilities for endusers to develop my domain into anything they like to. The more restricted, the less chance of selling and getting good price.

Feel free to comment and share your recent acquisitions as well 🙂

Domain acquisitions and sales of January/February 2016

Hello and Assalamo Alaikum,

Today I wanted to share what domain acquisitions and sales I made so far this year and will share some of the purchases I did in the last couple of months:

288626.com, 982228.com, 668155.com – Bought several 6Ns last year and very few this year including these two of them. I buy all domains thinking of long term investment but if there is a decent offer, I do accept it.

AEHM.com, MBNI.com, SIBN.com, RIAM.com, ABWM.com, SGMI.com, AGAD.com, JMCL.com, CISG.com – I have been buying LLLL.com rather quickly than I did in past. I still see non CHIPS are undervalued and has plenty of room to improve in pricing so if your pocket allows you spend, buy some LLLL.com which you can get at bargain. Although I paid decent prices for each of them as I go after combination of letters in which I see lot of potential.

JamieLee.com – Is there any post of my acquisitions in which I didn’t mention a person name. I just love buying such type of names. Although very few sold to date.

BEB.org, CGL.org, PDR.org, TPA.org – I think they are undervalued right now like 4L .com non CHIPS. Although Chinese are not much into .org but there are plenty of non Chinese buyers (enduser) out there for buying a quality LLL.org

SpeedHero.com – My first domain with the word “hero” and reading the posts from Doron inspired me to buy this one 😉

Liget.com – Every CVCVC.com has some value and I like this one although it doesn’t have any significant meaning other than “park” in Hungarian language.

MorningDew.com – I love these type of domains which can be used as brand for many different type of businesses.

KitchenAndBathroom.com – A three word .com with “and” in it but is a perfect domain for any kitchen and bathroom related company. Explains everything.

LymeLight.com – May be a type of sale what Mike Berken’s does it on regular basis. But nothing to worry when buying this as I won’t seek for that high sale price 😉

ExpressPizza.com – Any startup or existing pizza company with this name?

ShopGreen.com – I would prefer to have GreenShop.com but that’s what I was able to get it. Still I like this name.

Feel free to share your acquisitions and if you wish, can comment about on my above purchases.

Let’s get into the sales part which I think will keep it short. I actually had so far 3 domain sales in the past couple of months

First two sales I cannot disclose the name due to buyer’s request. But the sale price was around mid 4 figs each.

The last domain sale which I made in February was of ThePropertyClub.com. There were a couple of interesting things in this particular sale which I wanted to share. First, the buyer approached me calling from UK and offered me £200. I politely rejected and told him I will sell for around 4-5K.

Next day, he called me again by offering this time 1K which was again rejected. At the same time he increased the offer to 1.5K. Again, my answer was the same.

May be the next day or a gap of one day, he called again and asked what will be the minimum I would accept. It was $4,000 and he accepted. Payment was made swiftly and deal done! Interesting part was that I made my first domain sale through a phone call when the buyer called at first. Although I have made very few sales in the past when I initially approached the endusers.

Last interesting thing, it was my first sale starting with word “The”. Took too long to make it first as I like domains with starting word “the”. I think of having around 20 domains starting with “the” and glad it started paying off from last month.

Feel free to share your domain sales and if you wish, can comment about on my above sales.
