So after leaving Afternic in the mid October 2025, I tried both Efty.com and NamePros.com lander. Efty for one month and the remaining time I’ve been using NamePros lander.
During the last 10 months, I learned a few surprising things which I am going to share. I noticed that the number of sales dropped significantly but the amount of sales remained steady. Another surprising factor is that more 5 figure of sales have happened compared to the same duration at Afternic. It’s like the buyers are more comfortable purchasing the domain directly which is priced in 5 figures mainly because they understand the value of the domain, domain business and how it works rather than someone looking to buy a domain priced in 4 figures and have not much idea about the domains value and/or how the entire domain industry works.
I compared the data of January 2025 to August 2025 when I was using Afternic landers with the data of January 2026 to August 2026. There was a drop of 63% in the number of sales during the first 8 months of 2026 compared to the first 8 months of 2025. By the way, currently I’ve 12,500+ domains in my portfolio. If I exclude 15% commission from the first 8 months of 2025 sales and compare it with the first 8 months of 2026, then there was only 17% less amount of sales in 2026.
I’ve shared 8 months data above excluding the initial 2 months period because during that time I had moved to Efty and then to NamePros and made several changes which took some time to settle down.
With all the data and the result of those 10 months, I have decided to move back my partnership domains, around 5000 back to Afternic starting next month which are priced in the range of $1988 to $19888.
During the last two months, I was busy repricing all domains and will be moving back to Afternic only those which are priced in the range of $1988 to $19888. The domains priced higher than that will still be using NamePros lander along with all my own domains because the results are impressive and good. One thing which was made very clear with this experiment is that GoDaddy can bring in more number of sales especially for the domains which are priced in the 4 figures range.
There was one significant role of underpriced domains which majorly impacted the boost of 63% additional sales with Afternic. But there is no doubt that GoDaddy has a great reputation among domain buyers which definitely helps in getting more number of sales.
So the conclusion is that even with a drop of 63% of the number of sales and 17% less in amount of sales, I consider this experiment a success because I saved a lot of domains and didn’t sell it for cheap. Because there were many sales where it was priced too low and when the lead came in, the domain was repriced according to the domain value and current market value and sold successfully.

I’ll end this post with the last sale of this month which was CarTube.com for $19888 NET using NamePros lander. Buyer came in with a $1000 offer and I quoted $19888 NET. After going back and forth into negotiations, the buyer eventually agreed at the BIN and we used the Afternic checkout link where the buyer paid a 5% escrow fee on top of the $19888. Acquisition cost was under $1000 and held time 6+ years.

How come you don’t try Sedo..??
I had all my domains at Sedo at the time of using Afternic. Now since I’m moving part of the portfolio back to Afternic, so will add back to Sedo as well. But rarely a sale happens via Sedo but it’s worth listing with them IMO.
It seems like my (once in a while) Sedo sales have been clearance stuff, priced from $40-$688

May I ask what your sell-through rate was for the period of January 2026 to August 2026? Are you using ai to help price or research your portfolio? Thank you for sharing.
It was roughly 2% STR during that period.
I never use any automated appraisal tools or AI for pricing my domains. Each domain is priced/repriced manually by doing all the research. This is one of the reasons that repricing for that many number of domains took around 2 months.

For a portfolio of 12k domains, this is an impressive sell-through rate and, more over, your ability to manually price that volume of domains accurately enough to achieve a 2% STR is equally impressive. Bravo!

I’m not sure if a company is required for operating a domain business where you live in. It’s not compulsory to establish a company in all parts of the world so you must check at your end first.

I was only asking about domain marketplaces and registrars, and whether they require you to set up a company once you reach a certain sales threshold.
As for my country, Morocco, it is not required. You can operate either as an individual or as a legal entity.

No, the registrars or marketplaces doesn’t require you to operate a company no matter whatever threshold you’ve reached using that company. It’s good that Morocco doesn’t require you to have a company for operating domain investing business.

I’ve tried Atom with limited number of domains and had an okay experience. Nothing much to share but since leaving Afternic/Sedo last year, I removed all the domains from Atom as well. Now I might add them back but not sure.
Regarding Spaceship, I haven’t tried selling any of my domains with them and don’t plan to.

I got all my domains added back with the help of my Afternic rep. And at Sedo it took some time to add it back but all is done for now.
I’m not sure how to interpret this… So around 7500 are still not listed at Afternic or anywhere else, just the NP’s lander? After 10 months? I admire your stamina and I hope you can endure and surpass the previous overall result (that had a higher number of sales at lower prices.) I think hardly any buyer “understands” the domain name business or market. If higher prices compensated for a lower number of sales, it’s likely not due to that, IMO. I totally agree with you on buyers understanding about the domain business, market or its value.
I noted that the buyers of 4 figures range were having pretty less knowledge about the domain value, the process of purchasing, escrow, etc. On the other hand, the buyers of 5 figures are pretty much clear and a better overall understanding.
You’ve got a great portfolio of domains, I don’t think it matters much where you list them. There’s always swings in the market depending on the industry, but the tricky part is finding a balance between lowest commissions and trust.

For me, it was clear that high-end domains are more easy to sell directly than to list at marketplaces. Surprising to me though. However, I’m still using NamePros lander for selling my own domains.
This has been the worst year for selling domains on Afternic. The last two months have been especially disappointing, with not even a single sale. Sales have completely dried up. Is anyone else experiencing the same slowdown?

It’s been a little more than a month moving to Afternic but the results are not as per the expectations. I hope the sales to increase in the coming months and will keep you all posted with any progress.
